Shift Workers
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, approximate 15 million Americas work evening, night, or rotating shifts. Shift workers get an average of 1.5 hour less sleep and are 5 times more likely to be in an automobile accident than their day worker counter-parts. Within this group, our product will target the estimated 6%, or 900,000 workers who have severe fatigue problems. A recent study by the University of North Carolina suggests this group may be responsible for more than half of the shift-worker automobile accidents.
Sleep Disorder Patients
An estimated 30 million Americans are affected by a sleep disorder such as chronic insomnia, sleep apnea, and narcolepsy. Sleep apnea, a condition where a person momentarily stops breathing during sleep, is the most common sleep disorder affecting an estimate 4% of middle-aged males and 2% of middle-aged females. While most cases of Sleep Apnea are undiagnosed, sleep medicine is one of the fastest growing fields in medicine. Atigo is looking to work with local sleep clinics to reach potential customers who would benefit from our solution.
Commuters
Extreme commuting is defined as commuting with a one-way travel time to work of 90 minutes or more. In California, nearly 500,000 workers, or 3% of the work force, have extreme commutes. The percentage is higher in remote suburbs like Riverside County, where 6.5% of residents or 45,500 workers drive for more that 90 minutes each way to work. One way workers compensate for their long drive times is to drive during off-peak hours. In Los Angeles, 13% of workers start their commute between midnight at 6:00am, times when the risk for accidents is significantly higher then daylight hours.
Commercial Drivers
Commercial Drivers have well documented problems with drowsiness. Atigo’s solution will help drivers with fully automatic transmissions, meaning no clutch pedal to driver without drowsiness. Deployments of fully automatic transmission in Class 7 and Class 8 trucks is growing rapidly because of it’s benefits in full economy and driver retention.
